Western United is pleased to announce the signing of 19-year-old left-back Dalibor Markovic.

Markovic will join the Club from this Monday, 12 April.

From Caroline Springs in Melbourne’s west, Markovic saw United as the club that was best for his development as a footballer.

“I’m excited to get on board with Western United,” Markovic said.

“I feel like my family and I have made the decision that is best for my development.

“After speaking to Mark Rudan and a couple of other guys from Western it just seemed like it was the best move for my development and where I’m going to get opportunities to better myself.”

Markovic made his A-League debut for Melbourne Victory during the current A-League season.

The talented teenager impressed at left-back for Victory, recording two assists in just four appearances.

Both assists coincidentally came in the seven-goal thriller between United and Victory in Matchweek 10.

Markovic, who will begin training with the team next week already knows a couple of the United players and is looking forward to reuniting with them.

“I know Dylan Pierias, Luke Duzel, a couple of the boys here so it should be a good reunion.

“Me and Dylan were at Spring Hills when we were younger and me and Luke were at the Skillaroos and we’ve been to a couple national team camps together, so we know each other pretty well.

“I’ve spoken to Luke and a few of the other boys and they’ve had nothing but good things to say about everything here – the club, the staff, the facilities – I’m really looking forward to it.”

Western United GM Football, Ante Kovacevic said the Club is looking forward to welcoming Markovic.

“Dalibor has impressed us greatly throughout his senior A-League appearances this season and we’re expecting him to continue to feature in A-League line-ups,” Kovacevic said.

“He is quick, dynamic and composed for his age in the left-sided full-back role. It’s exciting to add another locally-based talent that is expected to have a long future with the club.”

Western United will take on Wellington Phoenix this Sunday, 11 April at WIN Stadium in Wollongong.

The squad will then fly to Tasmania for the Macca’s Festival Of Football where they’re scheduled to play Central Coast Mariners and the Phoenix at UTAS Stadium in Launceston.
