Western United will turn its January 19 Hyundai A-League Round 15 clash at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium into a special day of entertainment and fundraising for bushfire disaster relief while also honouring our brave emergency services and volunteers and paying respects to those who’ve lost their lives in the recent bushfires.

On Sunday, January 19, the entire community of western Melbourne will have a chance to pay tribute to the heroics of those who have fought the devastating bushfires that have wreaked havoc in Victoria and NSW while helping to raise funds for those affected by this tragedy.

It will be a day when A-League football and the community come together to help those in need.

In return, fans will have the chance to see Western United play for free in an A-League match with a host of family-friendly fun and kids’ activities throughout the day.

“This day is bigger than football,” said Western United CEO Chris Pehlivanis.

“It’s an event for the entire community to come together and show we are united in helping those communities in need.

“What’s more, our members, fans and the broader community will have the opportunity to show their appreciation for the emergency services and volunteers who have worked tirelessly through the crisis, whilst also paying respects to the tragic loss of life across Australia.”

The opponents on this special day are Central Coast Mariners, an A-League team located in an area of NSW also hit hard by both fire disasters.

The club recently turned one of their home games into a special event for their brave women and men from the NSW Rural Fire Service, so it’s fitting that both sides are playing each other on this special day.

“We encourage everyone to head to GMHBA stadium as early as possible to come together as a community and show our support during this difficult time,” added Pehlivanis.

“It’s time to unite for this worthy cause.”

The club will make a donation on behalf of every member who attends on the day.

Western United acknowledges the support of our partners for this special event, Ticketek, K-Rock, The Geelong Advertiser Wyndham Council, The Geelong Council.
