Powerchair

Western United’s commitment to growing and developing the sport within the western region of Victoria continues, with the establishment of a Western United Powerchair team.

United will join the Pride Mobility Victorian Powerchair League (VPL) for the 2021 season and will be managed by Powerchair Sports Victoria.

The team will be mixed gender and for all ages and will be coached by passionate United fan Brooke Muscat.

Western United’s Schools, Club and Community Manager, Pete Bradley said the Club is proud to launch the team.

“We are excited and proud to kick off the WUFC powerchair football project and to provide another community opportunity for people of all abilities to play football,” Bradley said.

“The project not only offers the chance for people to be active but also will provide a very welcoming and social environment.

“We are delighted that Brooke has agreed to be the coach for the program and we invite anyone interested to come along to our first come and try day on Sunday.”

Western United are the third team to join the competition, along with Melbourne City FC and South Melbourne FC.

Powerchair Sports Victoria President, Luke David is excited to have Western United join the competition.

“We are thrilled to welcome Western United into our powerchair football community,” David said.

“They become the third team in the Victorian Powerchair League, joining Melbourne City and South Melbourne as the sport continues to grow and develop in Victoria.

“It is an exciting opportunity to bring powerchair football to more people in a region we haven’t been able to access before and find the next generation of powerchair footballers.

“We look forward to working with Western United to support people with a disability to participate in football and connect with the wider community.”
