Ewen Pocock dreams of playing for Western United.

The Pocock family from Geelong (from left, Mum Clare, Ewen, Dad Scott and son Thomas – have become mad Western United fans.

Listening to Geelong radio station K-Rock recently, the Pococks’ interest was piqued, and they picked up a great-value family membership.

And guess what?

They’re hooked on the experience of supporting the Green and Black.

And for eight-year-old Ewen, grabbing a pic with head coach Mark Rudan after the now famous “Comeback at Marvel” against Victory sealed his ambition.

“His goal in life now is to play for Western United,” says proud mum Clare.

“He left the stadium that night and was so happy, as we all were with fans singing and dancing. He’s obsessed with soccer.”

And young Ewen has an on-pitch role model to inspire him.

“As soon as he began supporting United, he noticed Connor Pain.

“He’s kinda similar in his looks so Ewen has become a Connor Pain fan,” explained Clare.

While making it as a professional footballer isn’t easy, supporting the Green and Black is.

The Pocock family has been to every United game in Victoria so far and revel in the atmosphere created by the fans and the experience on match-day.

Having been AFL fans, the Pocock family story is being replicated across the West as the club’s fan-base continues to grow.

“We love the colours of green and black, and we’re having more fun than ever at Western United,” adds Clare.

“We sat next to the Western Service Crew at Marvel stadium with all the other fans in our bays behind the United dugout, and the colour and singing were amazing.

“And we loved how United staff gave out green and black streamers that night.

“It’s a family-oriented club and we are loving it.

“This is ‘our club’.”
