Western United continue to rise with the birth of two NPL teams in 2021

Western United FC is pleased to announce that it will be entering two teams in the 2021 National Premier League (NPL) Victoria season.

The Club can confirm it will field one team in the NPL3 senior divisions and one team in the NPL3 Under 21’s.

Both teams will begin their seasons in March 2021, marking another historic moment in the Club’s short history.

Jason Sourasis, Chairman Western United, believes the addition of these two teams, ahead of the club’s second A-League season is a momentous day for United and football in the west.

“Creating pathways and growing the game of football in the west is what Western United is all about; we’re here to build a strong football club that provides opportunities for every footballer in the west,” Sourasis said.

“It was always fundamental to create a pathway for players that were born and reside in our region to one day strive to represent the Green and Black at the elite level.

“We are committed to nurturing local boys and girls with the potential to play A-League, W-League and beyond. We want to provide hope and opportunity for every kid that aspires to play professionally so that their football dreams can become reality.”

United’s current A-League Assistant Coach Ante Moric has been named the Head of Youth Football and our inaugural NPL Senior Head Coach in 2021.

“I’m excited and privileged to have been given the opportunity to be the inaugural Head Coach of the Western United youth academy,” Moric said.

“I look forward to working with the next generation of young footballers emerging from the west and creating a solid pathway into the A-League.

“We will be looking to create from day one, an environment that challenges all players and more importantly, building on our culture.”

The WUFC NPL program will be based out of City Vista Reserve in Caroline Springs with the squad’s training schedule aligning with the A-League program.

Recruitment and trials will begin in the next month before pre-season training commences in January 2021. Players and coaches can register their interest via the online registration form.

The club plans to establish additional NPL junior teams from 2022.
