AAMI Park will come alive this Good Friday eve, as food relief organisation Foodbank Victoria joins forces with Western United to provide one blockbuster evening of fundraising and football.

The Foodbank match will be held on Thursday, April 1st with the aim to raise funds and spread awareness on what Foodbank does within the local community.

Western United will play Melbourne City in an exciting A-League showdown, with every player donning a special Foodbank branded home jersey.

All of United’s match-worn jerseys will be auctioned after the match with proceeds going to Foodbank Victoria.

Proceeds from the sale of thunder sticks and Western United flags will also go towards the club’s charity partner.

Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation, operating on a scale that makes it crucial to the work of the front-line charities who are feeding vulnerable Australians. Foodbank provides more than 70% of the food rescued for food relief organisations nation-wide.

Western United CEO Chris Pehlivanis was delighted to see the relationship with Foodbank Victoria has deepened in 2021.

“The community connection Foodbank Victoria have to families in Melbourne and Victoria’s west is a strong one and that value aligns perfectly with us as a football club,” said Pehlivanis.

“Western United are proud to activate our partnership with this exciting charity round, and I call on our supporters to get down to the match against Melbourne City at AAMI Park next week to support not only our team on the pitch but Foodbank Victoria.”

Foodbank Victoria CEO David McNamara was excited about the organisation’s involvement in the match.

“We’re pumped to be involved in this blockbuster match, putting our arms around another great team from this side of town. Partnering with Western United has given Foodbank the chance to strengthen our work in the local community and continue to feed the thousands of Victorians in need every month,” McNamara said.

Western United will look to get their first ever win over Melbourne City on Thursday 1st April. Kick-off is 5:35pm.
