The Weekly Wrap

Calder

The Western United weekend wrap up is a quick-fire around the grounds summary of results from our NPL 3 men’s and NPLW women’s teams.

This report sums up the games from the weekend ending Monday 10 May 2021.

NPL 3 – Western United Academy Teams

The NPL teams were away to Springvale White Eagles at the Serbian Sports Centre on Friday night.

The Under 21’s kicked-off the night in a fast paced game but weren’t able to convert some chances created in the first half. Springvale were the more clinical side and closed out the game in the final minutes just after United scored and hoped to salvage a point.

The senior team were comfortable leaders for the majority of the match going into half time with a 2-0 lead. The match turned out to be a physical encounter and the team handled the pressure of the local hostile crowd with maturity. A sublime Springvale freekick from 18 yards in the 85th minute created a tense end to the match but the team did well to sustain the pressure and bring home the 3 points.

NPL 3 Under 23’s team

Our U19’s kicked-off the night against Bulleen Lions at the Veneto Club and our reigning 2019 premiership team faced their first loss of the season whilst our seniors had a disappointing result against a strong Bulleen team. On a more positive note, it was the first game back for the 2019 golden boot and gold medallist, Catherine Zimmerman after her first season at Melbourne Victory.
