The Weekly Wrap

The Western United weekend wrap up is a quick-fire around the grounds summary of results from our NPL 3 men’s and NPLW women’s teams.

This report sums up the games from the weekend ending Sunday 2 May 2021.

Western United Academy Teams

The NPL sides had a big weekend, taking on Melbourne City for the first time on Friday night at ABD Stadium.

In two richly entertaining clashes, the Under 21 team went down 3-1 to the table-topping City team, before the senior side played out a pulsating 3-3 draw, promoting themselves to second on the table.

NPL 3 Under 23’s team

Final score: 3-3

Goal scorers: N. Milanovic (1’, 79’), R. Bozinovski (38’).

NPL 3 Under 21’s team

Final score: 1-3 defeat

Goal scorer: A. Walatee (63’).

NPLW – Calder United FC

It had been a brilliant campaign for the Calder United women so far, and that continued with a hugely successful afternoon on Saturday against Heidelberg United.

There were nine goals scored and none conceded as the Under 19’s ran out convincing 4-0 winners, followed by a 5-0 thumping for the seniors highlighted by a Mindy Barbieri hat-trick on her return to the side after W-League duties.

It means both teams sit at the top of their respective tables. The Under 19’s remain perfect through the first four games of the season, while the seniors are top on goal difference ahead of FV Emerging’s game against Box Hill to finish the round.

NPLW Senior team

Final score: 5-0 win

Goal scorers: A. Sinclair (7’, 37’), M. Barbieri (61’, 75’, 89’).

NPLW Girls Under-19’s team

Final score: 4-0

Goal scorers: A. Cerne (2), M. Matthews (2).
