The stat that shows Western United’s threat in the air

Western United have shown this A-League season that they have several threats who can score with their heads.

The stats confirm that United have recorded the most headed shots on target than any other team this season.

Andrew Durante’s goal against Western Sydney Wanderers in Round 5 is a prime example of the danger United pose for opponents.

The defender rose above the Wanderers’defence to head past Daniel Lopar and level the scores in Geelong.

Strikers Besart Berisha and Scott McDonald would also have headed goals this season if not for brilliant keeping from the likes of Lopar and Newcastle’s Glen Moss.

Here are four key stats ahead of Western United’s clash with Sydney FC:

  • This will be the first A-League match between Western United and Sydney FC, the defending champions are the only team remaining from New South Wales whom Western United are yet to cross paths with.
  • Western United has recorded the most headed shots on target (8) of any team in the 2019/20 A-League campaign, three more than Sydney FC (5).
  • Josh Risdon (Western United) has created the most chances in open play (16) of any player this A-League season, five more than Sydney FC’s best Milos Ninkovic (11).
  • Besart Berisha (Western United) is third for shots made inside the box in the competition (16).
