Sánchez ready to win at Western United

Sanchez

Western United recently pulled off a major off-season signing, recruiting experienced midfielder Víctor Sánchez.

Sánchez, who has played over 300 games in La Liga, joins the Green and Black on a two-year deal that will see him remain at the Club until at least the end of the 2021/22 A-League season.

After spending two weeks in quarantine in Melbourne, the 33-year-old is excited to begin at United.

“I am very happy for this new experience and I am sure that I can help the team to have a great season,” Sánchez said.

“I’m looking forward to training with my teammates and being able to play in front of our fans.

“Mark Rudan spoke to me and explained how the team played and that a player like me could help him a lot.

“I already had the idea of having a new experience abroad and the city, the club, the A-League, the country, everything made us think that we could be happy here.”

Sánchez made it clear as to what the fans can expect of him on the pitch and what he hopes to achieve during his time at the Green and Black.

The Spaniard is keen to use his experience to help win the Club silverware this season.

“I am a player who usually plays as a pivot, very sacrificed, who always leaves everything on the field, and physically strong.

“I also have a winning mentality and I hope that this mentality helps us have a great year.

“I have been training alone for almost four months, it is true that it is not the same as training in a group, but I think that physically I arrived more or less well.

“We will see how the first week of training goes and if I am ready to play the first game. My idea is to be able to be on the field as soon as possible.

“I hope to show the level that I have shown in Spain for many years and above all I hope to win. Win many games and be able to fight to win titles.

“I believe that if we all believe in the team, any goal is possible!”

Sánchez joins his former Espanyol teammate in Australia, Javi López, who recently signed for Adelaide United.

He’ll also come up against fellow Spaniards Beñat Etxebarria and Markel Susaeta, who have both signed for Macarthur FC.

Western United kick off their A-League season on Monday, 28 December against Adelaide at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong.
