Rudan ready for tough road test in Gosford

Western United head coach Mark Rudan says his team’s first road trip since round 1 may work in the Green and Black’s favour.

United face another side from Northern NSW this week when they meet Alen Stajcic’s Mariners on Sunday in Gosford.

The Green and Black have played all their games in Victoria since round 2, with four home games at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong and an away win over Victory at Marvel Stadium.

Last weekend, United hosted the Jets in Geelong.

A road trip to NSW might work in the side’s favour, Rudan told reporters, ahead of Round 7 Hyundai A-League action on Sunday.

“It’s another good challenge [for us].  Being away doesn’t really change things too much.

“We got a good away win in the first round in Wellington.

“The boys are really good, irrespective of the Jets [result] it’s a good squad.

“They enjoy being around each other, training with each other and coming in each day to work.

“I don’t think that’ll be a big difference in terms of travelling away, but actually it could work in our favour.

“It allows us to get out of Melbourne. We’ve been here a long time [since returning from Wellington in round 1] and sometimes that change of scenery can do a world of good.

“But it’ll be another tough challenge.”
