Rudan pleased with Western United’s execution in pre-season win

Western United Head Coach Mark Rudan believes his side is in a decent position heading into the new A-League season following Saturday’s pre-season win over North Geelong Warriors at GMHBA Stadium.

United ran out 9-0 winners over the NPL Victoria club, with new signing Lachie Wales scoring his first two goals in green and black.

Although the convincing result, it was about how the team executed the work put in at training that pleased Rudan most.

“It was important we continued on the good things and the things we’ve been working on during the week,” Rudan told wufc.com.au.

“The best thing for us coaches is when we work on certain movements that they execute, and we scored from those movements on four occasions.

“I think collectively they were very good. Still room to improve but a lot of positives today.

“You look at 12 months ago when we played against Melbourne City and North Geelong, a huge improvement when you look at the way we played.

“We were at full strength last year. The players that came in didn’t get many minutes last year, they’ve really gotten better at knowing their roles and responsibilities as well.”

United will turn their attention to next Saturday’s friendly against Melbourne City in Ballarat.

And Rudan says the game is just another step in the process of becoming the best possible side.

“Just continue on with the process and just be the best we can be, I think that’s the most important thing.

“We’ve got some important players to come in the coming weeks too.

“Three games to go before round 1, it’s going to happen very quickly.”

More information on the Club’s pre-season friendly against Melbourne City will be released over the next week.
