Report: United dominate Bulls in Ballarat

Pierias

Western United recorded a much-needed win on Saturday in Ballarat, defeating Macarthur FC 4-1 at Mars Stadium.

After a calm start, United brought the game to life in the 26th minute as Iker Guarrotxena opened his A-League account.

Guarrotxena deceived the Macarthur defence before shooting from distance, beating Macarthur keeper Adam Federici at the near post.

United doubled their lead just prior to the break, with the Spaniard involved again.

Guarrotxena’s lob through ball found Alessandro Diamanti, before the Italian cut it back to Besart Berisha who tapped the ball into an empty net.

The second half began just as the first ended, as United found a third goal.

A delightful pass from Diamanti found Dylan Pierias who showed his confidence, calmly tucking the ball into the bottom corner.

A fourth goal followed shortly after, as Berisha nabbed his second of the night.

Guarrotxena’s cheeky strike inside the area rebounded off the post before Berisha scored the follow-up.

Berisha’s brace puts him outright second for goals scored in Australian national league history with 138.

Matt Derbyshire scored a consolation goal for Macarthur in added time, heading past Filip Kurto at the back post.
