Report: Western United vs North Geelong Warriors

Stama

Western United’s preparations for the 2020/21 A-League season continued with a 9-0 friendly win over North Geelong Warriors at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.

United couldn’t have begun the match any better after Dylan Pierias’ curling effort found the top corner within 50 seconds.

The lead was doubled shortly after as Steven Lustica cut the ball back to Apostolos Stamatelopoulos who tapped the ball into an empty net.

Lustica was involved again just minutes later, shooting from just inside the area, before receiving a fortuitous deflection to score his first of the match.

Stamatelopoulos nabbed his brace after 38 minutes, clinically finishing off a set-piece routine.

United had their fifth almost immediately following the kick-off, as Lachie Wales had the ball cut back to him inside the area.

Wales slammed the ball home for his first goal in green and black.

More goals arrived in the second half for United, as Wales finished a one-on-one to secure his brace.

Trialist Stefan Zinni found the net twice himself, to open up an 8-0 lead after 70 minutes.

United scored their ninth and final goal with a few minutes remaining, as trialist Alex Baker headed home from a corner.
