Western United went down to Melbourne City on a hot January night at AAMI Park.

City took the lead within five minutes after Jamie Maclaren forced home a goal-line scramble.

Adrian Luna doubled the lead late in the first half, volleying home a delightful Craig Noone pass.

Maclaren then found his second and City’s third just before the interval.

United were awarded a penalty with 15 minutes remaining which Besart Berisha converted.

A second penalty was awarded moments later and a red card shown to Harrison Delbridge for handball. Diamanti put the spot kick past Dean Bouzanis to make it 3-2 with 10 minutes on the clock.

City were able to hold on for a dramatic 3-2 win.
