Western United looked to return to winning ways when it took on the Central Coast Mariners in Geelong.

The Green and Black started superbly at GMHBA Stadium. Captain Alessandro Diamanti found Besart Berisha who fired his header past Mark Birighitti to open the scoring after six minutes.

United’s lead was doubled shortly after as the returning Josh Risdon’s shot deflected off Mariner Kye Rowles and into the net.

Berisha has his second moments later, tapping home a Max Burgess cross to make it 3-0 after just 21 minutes.

The Mariners tried to find a way back into the game but Mark Rudan’s men held on for a solid victory.
