Western United have confirmed their place in the 2020 Hyundai A-League finals after a late Steven Lustica goal secured a 2-1 victory over Sydney FC.

The win mathetically secures a top six spot for the Green and Black, who become just the third expansion side to qualify for finals in their first season.

United opened the scoring after 21 minutes through Besart Berisha, who found the back of the net for the third game in a row.

The A-League’s all-time top scorer followed up an Andrew Redmayne save before tapping in from close range.

The Sky Blues found the equaliser early in the second half when Adam Le Fondre headed into the bottom corner following a set-piece.

With just a minute remaining in normal time, Steven Lustica received the ball inside the penalty area before finishing past Andrew Redmayne.

It was Lustica’s first goal for United since joining in February this year.

Western United will face Melbourne City in their final regular season match next Wednesday, August 19 before preparing for an elimination final.
