Calder United excited for Tasmania opportunity

Calder

Calder United is preparing for one of the biggest opportunities in the club’s history, getting set to play a double-header prior to Western United’s A-League match against Wellington Phoenix.

Before Western’s match at 7:05pm, Calder United’s Under 19’s and Senior team will each play a Tasmanian select side at UTAS Stadium.

Calder players, Adriana and Melissa Taranto are excited for the opportunity to travel interstate with their team and play on an elite surface.

“It’s an amazing opportunity, it’s great for both Football Tasmania and for us at Calder,” they said.

“The exposure that we’re going to get is going to be amazing for women’s football.

“It’s not something that at our NPL level we get to do so this is such an amazing opportunity.

“I’m sure half the girls have never really travelled with the team and been able to play in an amazing stadium.

“We had a look at the ground and it’s probably going to be one of the best fields that we’ve ever played on.”

Calder will play Tasmanian select sides, who consist of the best female footballers in Tasmania.

The Taranto twins are preparing for a tough game against the Tasmanians and are hoping to play the best football possible.

“We don’t really know what to expect because we’ve never been down there or played against any teams from there.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a great game; I believe they had trials to get a good rep team together.

“We go into every game not knowing what to expect and just playing our game and worrying about ourselves.

“Hopefully it’s a really good competitive game and we can play some good football.”
