Calder United to face Galaxy United in A-League curtain-raiser

Western United’s partnership with Calder United Soccer Club continues to strengthen as the NPL Women’s side are set to play a curtain-raiser prior to the A-League clash on Saturday.

Calder will face Galaxy United from 2:15pm at GMHBA Stadium as both teams prepare for their upcoming NPLW seasons.

Calder United President, Amanda Stella said the curtain-raiser is another example of what the partnership with Western United is about.

“This exhibition of female football as a curtain-raiser to an A-League game is an amazing opportunity for our players and we are fortunate enough to be sharing this with Geelong Galaxy, a leading force in female football in Geelong,” Stella said.

“This is what Calder and Western United’s partnership is about, taking female football to the next level and creating opportunities for players that will better the female game in this country.”

Calder United captain, Aleksander Sinclair can’t wait for her side to show their talent at GMHBA Stadium.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for our team to be able to showcase their talents and to be able to experience what is it like to play in front of an A-League audience,” Sinclair said.

“To have an opportunity like this is something that we are all grateful for as it displays the hard work, dedication and efforts by all.

“Opportunities like this solidify how we unite as a team. It provides the experience for our younger players and exposure for those more senior players.

“It assists us in becoming a stronger team who are able to back each other when needed and really work under pressure.

“We aim to have an amazing season and continue working hard on team and personal goals.”

The curtain-raiser will kick-off at 2:15pm, before Western United and Perth Glory clash at 5:05pm.
