Ante Kovacevic appointed as new Western United General Manager of Football

Following an extremely robust national and international recruitment process, Ante Kovacevic has been appointed as the General Manager of Football for Western United FC.

Kovacevic joins Western United FC with a wealth of experience, most recently at Adelaide United Football Club where he presided over the football department in an extremely successful era for the club, having won the Hyundai A-League Championship in 2015/16 and the FFA Cup in 2018 and 2019. Prior to his time at Adelaide United FC, Kovacevic spent six years at Perth Glory as Football Operations Manager.

Kovacevic has a significant football and western suburbs pedigree having been born and bred in West Footscray. He went on to play and captain Melbourne Knights FC before stints at Adelaide City FC, South Melbourne FC, FA Selangor in Malaysia and finally Perth Glory FC in 2005.

“Ante has great experience and expertise in all facets of leading a successful football department. His passion for the game at all levels, from senior A-League teams through to Women’s and Youth sides to Academy levels is outstanding,” Western United FC CEO Chris Pehlivanis said.

“He is a strong grassroots and community focussed individual who has his roots firmly planted in the western suburbs, a place he still calls home with pride.

“Ante is a down-to-earth, straight-forward individual who places high emphasis on a club’s values and behaviours to ensure the desired culture is created and embodied by all personnel.”

Kovacevic has an expansive network across all levels of the game in Australia and brings a business perspective having worked in the IT industry and has a graduate education with a Bachelor of Business and Master of Information Technology. 

Kovacevic will commence with Western United FC on 20 July heading to the NSW Hub to join the team and staff as the club resumes its inaugural season.
