Wollongong United FC will begin their 2010 season this Friday, against Dapto (at Dapto Showground, 1pm Youth, 3pm 1st grade). Based on pre-season training and games, the team is improving and playing entertaining football. The aim is to start strongly and play finals football.
WUFC First Grade, coached by the experienced veteran John Fleming, and hist assistant Paul Townsend. 1st Grade have retained 10 players from last year, plus added several additions locally and from Sydney players. The aim is to get off to a solid start and prove to be a finals contender. There is a fine balance between youth and energy (Mehrkhavari, Leuzzi, Tsattalios, Miller) and experience and leadership (Schwarzer, Glass, Millicevic, Guerero).
WUFC Youth Grade, coached by last year's coach Orrie Jovanov, his assistant and Youth Captain Oli Vrtkovski. The team has re-signed the majority of last year's players, who finished the 2009 season strongly to break into the playoffs. A couple of promising young quality players were als signed to the team, enabling more depth. The learnings gained flast year will prove valuable to a successful 2010.
